Another new entry

I am still learning about this whole blogging thing.  I happen to work at a company that is actually a web based business, so I do have some understanding of the Internet.  But it was only a few months ago that I got into Facebook, and I have not really been someone who has been a follower of blogs.  

But to make this interesting for others, I probably need to provide as much content as possible, before inviting a lot of users.  So, here I am, adding new posts most days, and hopefully with a LOST related stamp to boot. 

Also, I am hoping to get the associated pages up to date as well, because this may be where ultimately the bulk of the LOST stamps will be appearing.  

You may notice that some of the stamps that I have posted up to this point have a watermark from an internet stamp dealer (www.poppe-stamps.com)  I have purchased these stamps, but they have not yet arrived.  Once I receive them, I will scan the actual stamps and place these images into this blog. But I guess using their scanned images, gives them some advertising. 

By the way, you should probably check out their website, they have an enormous selection of stamps.  :) 

So here is my stamp for the day.  I found it when looking for 'hatch' related stamps.  You know -- Swan, Arrow, Orchid, etc.   

So indeed, this is an arrow stamp, but it is also reminiscent of a scene in a later season too, don't you think? 

All of the things I could include in this collection

There are really a lot of things that could be included in this new thematic collection of mine.  For example, the Black Rock, which is apparently the slave ship that somehow ended up in the middle of the island.  Ships of the variety from the 1700s - 1800s is a very common topic for stamps.  These types of ships are particularly popular for the countries that offer CTO (Canceled to Order) stamps.  I am going to try to avoid the CTO stamps as much as possible.   However some of them may appear, and I will be talking about these in a future blog post.

Today I am going to include another favorite stamp in my new LOST theme collection. If you think back to the Pilot, John Locke talks to Walt about Backgammon.  Walt asks if its checkers that he is playing, and John says, "No, its not checkers, its better than checkers...Its backgammon.. One side white, and the other black."  And for the entire six seasons we watch a good guy vs. a bad guy. At first it is Jack vs. Sawyer, and Survivors vs. Others, and then Island people vs. Freighter folks,etc. Oh and don't forget Ben vs. Widmore.

Beech 18 and a few more thoughts as I start this thing

I am not sure exactly how I am going to update this blog, or how often.  I am not sure if it will have a life much beyond the end of this season.   Perhaps it will.  I think I am going to be almost as excited about LOST next year as I am right now.  

However, since we are now in the last season of LOST, the interest in LOST themed stamps may end very soon, so I need to move now, if I ever hope to put together a collection that will seem relevant.   So, I will probably post frequently right now. I think I will post every day or so, with another stamp that I think is interesting in the whole LOST theme.  

I am also going to start a series of individual pages on various LOST topics such as LOST Literature, LOST Characters and LOST Music.  I will probably put some of the best images in these external pages. 


Here is another of my favorite LOST stamps.  Iceland #453:  It primarily displays a Beechcraft model 18 airplane. However, notice it also contains one of the LOST numbers (16) also the name of the country appears as the english word for "island."

Some more background to the LOST collection.

The idea behind this type of theme collection is not to collect every stamp of a particular topic. For example, I am not going to try to gather ALL polar bear, mango or coconut stamps of the world. Instead I want to try to find good examples of some of the key events, people, items, or themes that seem to reoccur in LOST or played a memorable role in an episode or two.

For example, one my favorite stamps so far Dahomey C83, which features a blue VW microbus. If you've seen the 3rd and/or 5th season, you know about the blue Dharma vans.

Introduction

About two years ago, I rekindled my childhood hobby of stamp collecting. Coincidentally at that same time I started watching LOST on DVD. Sometime in late 2009, I saw the United States 28c Polar Bear stamp from 2009, which reminded me of the polar bear in Lost.

This started me thinking about other LOST themed stamps that may be out in the world. I thought it might fun to see if it might be possible to start a Lost Themed Topical collection.
